2000 -A NEW MILLENNIUM
  TAG BECOME LEASEHOLDERS OF 'MARC BOLAN'S ROCK SHRINE'
   AND LEGAL OWNERS OF 'THE BOLAN TREE'

Left: Loading up Mark Rowe's Van with the hundred year old hardwood railway sleepers for the 130 mile journey to London. Although Mark Rowe is not a bolan fan he agreed to give his time free-of-charge as a favour to his long-time friends Kev and Fee and in so doing he made the project 'do-able'. Mark's dad Lou is 'roped in' to help. Mark sourced the railway sleepers while Kev and Fee priced up and bought the other things needed. Fee even talked the local hire company into giving her a discount because it was for a 'worthy cause'!

Left: Three Japanese fans arrive as we are about to start the project. Right: How the site looked when we arrived on the 9th January 2000. As you can clearly see the whole site is looking very sorry for itself. It is not the sort of tribute which at the time Fee felt Marc should have.

Below: Work under way. We had one weekend to do the whole project because Mark was needed at work on the Monday. We had not planned to do anything around the PRS Memorial, but it became clear that we needed to hold the bank back with log-roll to prevent the continual soil slippage covering the cobbled base of the Memorial and so decided to carry the sleepers across from the bottom of the steps so that the area around the PRS Memorial could be filled in with pebbles to compliment and enhance the cobbled base of the Memorial itself. The log roll, pebbles and other things needed to complete the project were bought from the Garden Centre opposite Marc's last house in Upper Richmond Road West and again, Fee negotiated a 10% discount for a local and worthy cause.

Below: Late on the Sunday evening the work was completed. When it came to posing for the "Phew it's done" photo Mark got camera shy! & Kev was behind the camera. The photo below (centre left) shows the other workers on the project. Adam Ant fans Caroline & Madam Stan, Steph Ryder, Ellie and Fee Warner & Jim Ryder. Although the date for the work was publicised and people were invited to come along and do 'hands on' work it was a great disappointment that there were actually as many Adam Ant fans as Bolan fans at work that weekend (two of each) and they were outnumbered by the four non-Bolan fans! For that reason work on both the Saturday and Sunday nights went on until gone 9:00 pm. TAG is endebted to the local residents who allowed us to plug in our extension leads so that we could use a floodlight to illuminate the site because in January it became too dark to work by 5:00pm.
